Homework and Reminders Nov. 6, 2018.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are having some issues with students at recess and lunch time when there is not a constant adult figure in the portable. Some students are locking the door from the inside out as well as throwing and kicking balls around the room. This is causing damage to personal items (mine as well other students) and students getting upset with others that are not listening and following the expectations. I have spoken to the class to ensure that the message of "breaking" the rule is clear. From this point forward if students are caught breaking the rules, they will be calling home immediately and possible further consequences will occur in the office. Please have a conversation with your child about expectations in the portable at recess and lunch.

Instructions on how to sign up for parent/teacher interviews and student-led conferences will be sent to you on November 5th and you will need to register for Edsby before this date.

Please contact the school office if you require another invitation to join.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Making new friends and making memories with old friends are important parts of the school year.  Help your child keep the fun and memories alive for years to come with a yearbook, a time capsule of the events and people that made this year unique.

Last year marked our very first yearbook, and it was a HUGE success.  The majority of our families ordered one. Rick Hansen Public School is pleased to announce that we will continue the yearbook tradition started last year.  The cost for the 2018-2019 full-colour yearbook is $26.

Please make your payment using SchoolCashOnline (https://yrdsb.schoolcashonline.com/).  Orders are due by the end of November.

Homework and Reminders

Today we took some time to practice our cross country loop during DPA. All students were very successful and finished the 3 loops in just over 15 minutes. They should all be very proud of themselves for giving their best efforts. After our run we stayed outside to talk about Making Healthy Choices and Nutrition as well as several topics that relate to making healthy choices such as body image, peer pressures, family and cultural expectations ect.

Tomorrow, we are looking forward to walking over to our neighbourhood pond to research and take pictures of different species living in an ecosystem. This directly relates to our science biodiversity unit. Students are expected to take pictures of living species so that we can classify them into the 5 Kingdom Classification chart.

In literacy, we have working on punctuation and grammar. Tomorrow we will have a chance to take up our "end punctuation" sheet and continue our learning about WWII through our class novel study "Number the Stars". Students are expected to research and answer a a reading comprehension question every couple of chapters. The purpose of this is to further our knowledge about WWII but also to think critically about material that we are reading.
